Consumer Critique: Money Saving Mom's Budget Audio Book

I had the chance to review The Money Saving Mom's Budget: Slash Your Spending, Pay Down Your Debt, Streamline Your Life, and Save Thousands a Year (available in audio, print, or Kindle).

I'm not always a fan of audio books, I like to read because I can read very quickly. On the other hand, audiobooks are nice to use for multitasking.

One downside to this book is that the author and her husband have always been thrifty, so they were more easily able to follow the tips in the book. They may not be as easy to follow for people who are used to a lot of luxury. They've also had circumstances that have allowed them to meet their goals more easily than some people in certain situations. She does also emphasize personal choice to an extent that may make some people bristle, particularly those who have ended up in poor circumstances not by their own choice, but she does have a point - that's better to make the choice to improve than to wallow in financial ruin.

However, the book provides a lot of tips in a lot of different areas. It starts out with some general guidelines about goal-setting, and provides the example of her family - buying a house with no mortgage (this is where some of the circumstances came into play). Then it also provides an example based on a family with much tighter circumstances. It moves on to looking at different ways to cut costs and save money. If you have been living a frugal lifestyle for quite some time, you may not find a lot of new tips in this book. But if you get the feeling you could be doing more, or if you are new to cutting costs, this book is a great resource.

Disclosure: I received a free audiobook to facilitate this review.
