Consumer Critique: Smitty

I just had a chance to review Smitty (Phase 4 Films, available April 10th, starring Mira Sorvino, Peter Fonda, Louis Gossett Jr., and Jason London.

This movie tells the story of a troublemaker, Ben, who gets sent to live with his grandfather for the summer. The friendly dog helps Ben learn the importance of values. It's a nice family movie, and is a good way to reinforce values you want your kids to learn, or to help start talking about choices and responsibility.

This film is Dove Family Approved for all ages. This means that there is very limited violence, sex, and poor language (the film does use the word "sucks" several times, and according to the Dove listing uses "jackass" once, although I must have missed it. There is some violence, as been is kind of a city brat who vandalizes a restaurant. But on the whole, I am very comfortable watching this movie with my 2- and 4-year-old daughters.

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of Smitty to facilitate this review.
