Consumer Critique: Makenzie Caine Take This Town

Have you heard of Makenzie Caine? I hadn't, until I got a chance to review her new album, Take This Town. I was very impressed with the artwork, and instantly wanted to like this CD - if it was nearly as beautiful as the CD jacket was, I knew I'd like it.

The CD is family-friendly. The songs aren't necessarily written for kids, but many of them have perfect themes that go along with childhood and parenting, such as Sweet Baby and Butterfly. The title track is also a sweet song about remembering one's roots. Just about all of the songs make good lullabies, quite frankly, with Makenzie's easy-to-listen-to voice. The only one that's a little bit not as child-friendly is Pretty in Red (it deals with a woman's unhappiness, so it's not explicit or anything, just not as upbeat), but it is softened somewhat by a children's choir.

Her style is a blend of folk, country, and jazz, so it will have a wide appeal if you like any of those three types of music. She has a sound that would be at home on just about any radio channel (except a hard rock station).

In the end, I did like the CD as much as I liked my first impression based on the artwork. If you're looking for a new artist to discover, consider checking her out. You can find out more by watching Makenzie Caine's Youtube videos, by finding Makenzie Caine on Facebook, or by following @makenziecaine.

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of the CD to facilitate this review.
