Did you know that Sunday, July 15th is National Ice Cream Day? Designated in 1984 by Ronald Reagan due to the popularity of ice cream in the United States, the sweet-toothed President stated that this occasion should be observed with "appropriate ceremonies and activities." To celebrate, Zeroli, American manufacturer of ice cream scoops and spades since 1935, wants to share this recipe with you.
Step 1: Chill marble cutting board in freezer, or use ice packs/frozen veggies to chill a marble countertop working space.
Step 2: Peel, core, and slice one (1) Granny Smith apple into small pieces. Combine with ¼ tsp cinnamon, ½ tsp brown sugar and a pinch of nutmeg. Simmer ingredients for 5 minutes over a low heat to soften, then add one crushed oatmeal cookie to the mixture.
Step 3: Place two large scoops of vanilla ice cream on the center of the chilled slab. Work scoops together until pliable, and create a small well in the center to add the apple mixture.
Step 4: Add apple mixture to the well, and mash ingredients into ice cream using a Zeroll TubMate® Spade.
Step 5: Serve and enjoy!
Zeroll engineered a revolutionary design for a non-mechanical ice cream
scoop made of cast aluminum with fluid inside the handle, allowing
heat to transfer from the user’s hand to the ice cream scoop,
warming the liquid and defrosting the ice cream. In addition to having
no breakable parts, this scoop enabled users to roll the ice cream into a
ball, generating 10%-20% more servings per
gallon – a main selling point, especially during the Great Depression.
The beauty and utility of the Zeroll® Ice Cream Scoop is displayed in the Museum of Modern Art’s Permanent Design Collection in New York City.
