Fundraising often requires a little magic. On Saturday, September 8, jump down the rabbit hole with Children’s Theatre Company’s (CTC) White Rabbits and Black Ties Curtain Call Ball to peek into what happens to a world-renowned children’s theatre after the children have gone to bed. Inspired by the surrealism of Alice in Wonderland, the theatre will be transformed into a wonderland that will excite the imagination, complete with a formal dinner, open bar, cabaret, live and silent auctions, prize raffles, and dancing.
CTC’s Curtain Call Ball has been the theatre’s core fundraising event for more than 20 years. Every year, CTC raises more than a million dollars to fund its access programs and scholarships for programs like Neighborhood Bridges, Theatre Arts Training, and the free and reduced-rate student matinee program. Because of this, CTC provides access to the arts for hundreds of thousands of local young people each year. A recent study conducted by the National Endowment for the Arts shows that early arts investment actually increases high school graduation rates and successful civic involvement later in life. Children who are involved with the arts early become adults who vote more often, go out and get jobs, and are more concerned about their communities.
Mike Newman, Director of Community Relations and Vice President of Travelers Foundation looks forward to the event each year with genuine enthusiasm. Newman explains, “We are especially excited to support the Ball because of the many educational and neighborhood outreach experiences it helps fund for diverse audiences of young people. Plus, the Curtain Call Ball is just a great time…incredible energy, awesome entertainment, and huge doses of fun with other people who feel the same about CTC. We do it because there is no other place to be when the Curtain Call Ball happens.” Travelers will be the lead sponsor for Curtain Call Ball.
Target will sponsor the 2012 Backstage Bash, featuring Sweet ‘Stache (back by continued popular demand) which specifically funds early childhood programming. According to Community Relations President Laysha Ward, “At Target, we are committed to serving local communities where we do business, that’s why we are proud to partner with Children’s Theatre Company as we work to strengthen communities and enrich the lives of our guests and team members.”
This year, the traditional Dinner Package ($350) includes valet parking, a cocktail reception, open bar, silent and live auctions, seated formal dinner, cabaret performances and admission to the Backstage Bash. The Backstage Bash Package ($55) includes valet parking, an open bar, dancing, hors d’oeuvres, desserts, games, prizes and other exciting surprises.
