I'm not sure what I expected when I got to read Simple Skincare, Beautiful Skin: A Back-to-Basics Approach. I know that I certainly have probably even a less-than-basic approach to skincare, since I pretty much just wash my face a few times a week and leave it at that. But with all the skincare products that are advertised all over the place, and all the new ingredients that are supposedly miracle cures for aging, I thought it would be worth looking to see what someone in the medical field felt. Dr. Ahmed Abdullah is a plastic surgeon, so clearly he's in a world where his patients value their appearance.
The book is well written. There is a lot of science in the book, but it's very clearly explained and doesn't go deeper than the reader needs to understand. There's a great chapter on decoding the bottle, listing some of the ingredients one typically sees. There's also a chapter extolling the virtues of aloe, which has long been known to be great for the skin. There's even a chapter that specifically deals with the effects of cancer treatment on skin, and another chapter on acne, so people that fall into those categories can find information specifically tailored to those groups.
Disclosure: I received a complimentary e-copy of the book to facilitate this review.
