Thrifty Thinking: Mass Mutual LifeBridge

Many people know they should have life insurance, but don't feel they can afford it. Mass Mutual has a program called LifeBridge, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, to make it possible for people to have life insurance even if they can't afford it. I had a chance to interview Cindie St. George, Director of MassMutual’s LifeBridge Program for more details.

  1. Why did Mass Mutual decide to launch this program?
MassMutual saw a great need in the community/society which provided us the opportunity to combine two of the things that we believe the most in, life insurance and education. Families on tight budgets needed help accessing the valuable protection that life insurance provides and children’s future educations were one of the most vulnerable aspects to a parent dying. Therefore, LifeBridge aims to provide free life insurance to those that are least likely to be able to afford it, but probably need it the most.

  1. How can families find out if they're eligible?
Families can visit our new LifeBridge webpage www.massmutual.com/lifebridge. There they can watch a video of a participant, read about the eligibility requirements and fill out an eligibility form. Families can also attend one of our application events which are hosted throughout the country. Currently there are events planned in Tampa, Fla. On Sept. 19, Springfield, Mass. On Sept. 25 and San Francisco, Cali. on Sept. 29.

  1. What other options does MassMutual have for families who might be struggling financially?
MassMutual has more than 5,000 financial professionals across the country that can help families develop a budget and organize their financial priorities. The company also offers scholarship opportunities for students. Visit www.massmutual.com/education for more info.
