Yahoo! Women Who Shine

I'm nominating a friend of mine for the Yahoo! Women Who Shine program, a contest where women have a chance to win a $10,000 prize if they receive the most votes. The women I'm nominating doesn't shine in the traditional sense - she hasn't won any major awards or juggling researching cancer while mothering - but she shines in her own quiet way, influencing the lives of those around her. Vote for her here!

Kristin has been a friend of mine for about five years, and I have always been impressed by her lifestyle and attitude. After having four biological children, Kristin and her husband made the decision to adopt two special needs children from China. There aren't many people that will make the commitment to adopting, especially a special needs child - and especially two of them, from a foreign country. That in and of itself greatly impresses me. She also shines in her parenting style. Her children are well taken care of, and she and her husband provide a loving household grounded in strong values. She is an active volunteer with our church as well. She also shines with her sunny outlook in life, taking a positive look at every situation. Above all of these, she’s taken it upon herself to keep many of us women connected with each other, organizing a monthly night out and giving us all a chance to be engaged socially as individuals, not just with our family. In between all of that, she’s also managed to write and publish a children’s book!

If you want to vote, you can vote until October 29th. Visit the program site to read other nominations!
