Consumer Critique: The Piano Guys

I was really excited to get the chance to review this album. I teach piano, my husband was a music major with piano as his secondary instrument, and my daughter just started piano this year. So we appreciate good music, and we love classical music. But we also have very eclectic tastes, so The Piano Guys self-titled album is right up our alley. The name The Piano Guys is a little deceptive, since it's not just piano. To get a little taste, visit The Piano Guys channel on Youtube.

The "guys" are five people: the former owner of the store in St. Georgeo, Utah, who set up Facebook and YouTube, the pianist, the cellist, a videographer, and the studio operator (who also does some writing, arrangeing, percussion, and vocal textures).

The CD itself is fun to listen to. It contains some great classical/pop mash-ups in an eclectic bunch of styles: Michael Jackson with Mozart, Coldplay African style, Vivaldi with The Bourne Identity, and much more. The videos are equally impressive to watch, including in a Stars Wars cello battle, and a helicoptered grand piano.

The musicians have great techniques. The rest of the "guys" have a great creative streak too. It makes it an entertaining CD, and also a good way to show kids how versatile music and musical talent can be.

Disclosure: I received a complimentary CD to facilitate this review.
