“This
contest engages the creative energy of teenagers to communicate the
value of saving in a new way,” said Laura Fisher, executive director of
the ABA Education Foundation. “The rap songs, puppet shows and parodies
created for this contest are funny, thoughtful and entirely original
financial education content.”
Students will creatively illustrate the value of saving and/or using money wisely in a video. Participating banks
will host the first round of judging and submit one winning video to
compete at the national level. Three national winners will receive
prizes of $3,000, $1,500 or $500 for their savings goals and $1,500,
$1,000, or $500 for their schools. Winning videos will be posted on
YouTube and SchoolTube as part of a national campaign to educate youth
about the value of saving.
Last year’s second place winners created a video
with tips for this year’s applicants. The video, along with previous
winning videos, can be viewed on the Lights, Camera, Save! YouTube page.
To compete, teens aged 13-18 must contact a local participating bank
in their area or state for a contestant entry packet, and then record
and submit their video and all applicable forms during the contest
period (Nov. 1-Nov. 30).
The ABA Education Foundation provides
financial education programs and resources that help bankers make their
communities better. More than 123,000 bankers have taught basic finance
skills to some 5.2 million young people through participation in the
Foundation’s signature programs, Teach Children to Save and Get Smart
About Credit. Founded by bankers in 1925, the foundation is guided by a
board of bankers and is an affiliate of the American Bankers
Association.
