Fun Freetime: Ode to Summer

Spending hours building the perfect sandcastle. Getting caught in a rainstorm and dancing through puddles. Watching your son catch a foul ball at his first baseball game. It’s moments like these that we remember forever. And even as the weather turns colder and the days grow shorter, our summer memories and moments are being kept alive thanks to fans of the Häagen-Dazs brand.
The “Ode to Summer” e-book helps celebrate summer moments made like no other® using fan submitted tweets and photos. The e-Book was created as part of the “Häagen-Dazs 50 Summer Moments” campaign with the help of Chef Alex Guarnaschelli and a series of guest authors and contributors. 
Throughout the summer, fans across the country posted their most cherished summer moments on Twitter and Instagram using #HDmoment. From the hundreds of thoughtfully-crafted and engaging submissions, fifty were selected as inspiration for this love letter to summer.
But even those that weren’t selected still made a difference. Since June, the Häagen-Dazs brand has donated $25,000 to honey bee research at the University of California, Davis plus an additional $5 for every #HDmoment submitted, helping to guarantee another 50 summers full of savory moments for us all. Continuing its commitment, the brand will donate an additional $5 for every download of the e-Book up to $50,000 – bringing the total donation to $75,000.  Honey bee colonies – which are responsible for one third of the world’s food supply – are dying at an alarming rate, posing a serious risk to our natural food supply, including many of the ingredients that define Häagen-Dazs super premium ice cream.
