Fun Freetime: Word Girl

Word Girl is a fun show. My girls love it. They both enjoy learning new words, and I love that it's family friendly and the "bad guys" involve people who steal all the cheese - no real violence.

Just in time for Halloween, this Emmy Award-winning series from Scholastic Media premieres the new episode “Scary with a Side of Butter/Talent Show Tobey” on Monday, October 29 on PBS KIDS (check your local listings for times).

In Scary with a Side of Butter, Bampy Botsford sparks a panic throughout the city after telling the tale of the giant evil artichoke, and Mr. Big uses the opportunity to become even richer and more powerful! Will the giant artichoke show up, or will Mr. Big finally find a way to control the minds of citizens? Vocabulary words for the episode: Fable, Artichoke

In Talent Show Tobey, Tobey tricks WordGirl into performing his poetry at the talent show, but Becky has already volunteered to be Scoops’ assistant for his magic act. How will she appear on stage as both Becky AND WordGirl, while saving the city from Tobey’s latest robot? Vocabulary words introduced: Discombobulated, Essential

On October 26, they'll air the episode "Tobey's Tricks and Treats/Escape Wham" which introduce the words eerie, supernatural, potential, and boisterous.
