The Department of Education will be hosting its ‘Education Datapalooza’ event on October 9th. The purpose of this event is to showcase the companies, both big
and small, who are using the power of open data to help improve education in America.
Among the presenters will be the creators of Bookend, which uses student grades and real-time analytics to help students stay ahead in school. Once the tool
provides evidence that a student may not be understanding a subject, it has the ability to serve up local
tutors and free web videos to assist, quickly providing solutions to the student’s challenges. Bookend
uses additional data from the Dept. of Education ‘MyData’ initiative, further fueling its predictive algorithms
which make the tool so powerful. Bookend is easily accessed via a web browser or mobile device.
Bookend hopes to become the go-to application for communicating student performance between the student’s biggest success advocates, their teachers at school and their parents at home. In addition to the increased transparency, the tool offers an efficient way for teachers to identify students who are falling behind and provides the support they need at the critical time when they need it.
Passionate about improving education in America, Cofer left behind a role in educational technology consulting to create Bookend and was recently named ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ by Georgetown Business School. He lives near Washington D.C. with his wife Aimee. For more information, follow @BookendTech on Twitter.
