Fun Freetime: Kidipede

Kidipede started way back in 1995, when there was just nothing online at all about the ancient world. It was so long ago that when the site's founders wanted to be listed in a directory, they called the lady at Yahoo on the phone, and asked her to add us to the list of websites they had! That was before Google, or Wikipedia, or anything… at first, they were the only result for "Plato".

Today, Kidipede is a free online encyclopedia specially written for 10-14 year old kids  - easy to read, reliable, and safe. I visited the site, and found that even my 5-year-old was engaged as I read some of the articles to her! The site focuses on science, history, and math topics, and also has a lot of middle school social studies lesson plans, which you could use to supplement education, as part of a homeschool curriculum, or just for fun on the weekends or in the summer.
