Website Spotlight: What if Your Child Went Missing?

Jessica Olson is the Community Marketing Manager at Smart911. Jessica works with each community as well as with partner and advocacy groups to create awareness of Smart911.

There are a lot of parents who have experienced moments of panic regarding their children safety. For example, you’re at the mall or another busy location, you turn your back for one second, and when you turn back, your child is not there. You immediately start calling their name, looking through the store or wherever you may be. Fortunately, most times, they turn up after a few minutes.
But what happens if they don’t? What if that panic continues? Or what if your child is in trusted hands and you get a phone call that they can’t find them? Parents would do everything they can to prevent that moment from happening, but do all parents take that extra step to ensure if that moment does occur, their child can be found quickly?
Smart911 is taking a step in the right direction, by providing parents a way to do just that. If 9-1-1 had your child’s photo and description right away, it would make a tremendous difference. It actually did that in a recent missing child call in Arkansas- click here to hear the call.
In communities all across the country, parents are signing on to create a free Safety Profile for their household, to be prepared for any emergency. That Safety Profile is then immediately available to 9-1-1 call takers and response teams when someone in your family dials 9-1-1.
You can control your information when you create a free Safety Profile at www.smart911.com. For example, you can choose to include: family members, medical conditions and rescue notes, mobile and landline numbers, emergency contacts and family pets. You decide what to include in your profile.
This information is not only valuable in the event of a missing child, but in any other emergency situation. What if you have a family member with an allergy, or a medical condition? What if you are in a car accident? How many people who call 9-1-1 are in the frame of mind to easily communicate needed information? What if you child dials 9-1-1 for you? Smart911 allows that information to be available, just in case you do need to dial 9-1-1, and you can’t give them the details they need.
Smart911 is currently available in 26 states and over 300 municipalities - with more being added each month. To check your local availability you can search your zip code at smart911.com . After you created your Safety Profile, it will travel with you, even if your local 9-1-1 center does not support Smart911 yet. Anytime a phone number registered to your profile dials 9-1-1 in a Smart911 supported location, your profile will be available to 9-1-1 call takers to better assist you.
Smart911 wants to help you protect the ones you love. Create a Safety Profile today.
