Caring Causes: Light it Up Blue Autism Awareness

Yesterday was World Autism Awareness Day as part of World Autism Awareness Month. Approximately 1 in every 50 children has an autism spectrum disorder, so it's a widespread issue.

Autism Speaks just launched the Light It Up Blue campaign in which thousands of structures around the world will turn blue in support of autism. This year, Autism Speaks, a leading autism science and advocacy organization, is asking people to shine a light on autism in their own way, by:

Illuminating: Change your white bulbs to blue. Light up your home, business, school, place of worship or even your website blue to show your support.
Donating: Text Autism to 25383 to donate $10 to Autism Speaks* or make a donation on LightItUpBlue.org.*
Advocating: Take action as they call on President Obama and Congress to develop and implement a comprehensive national plan to address autism. Sign the petition on LightItUpBlue.org.

Throughout the month of April Toys“R”Us also offers consumers a way to lend support through their “Shine A Light For Autism” in-store and online fundraising campaign to benefit Autism Speaks.  Supporters can donate at more than 870 Toys“R”Us® and Babies“R”Us® stores nationwide and online at Toysrus.com/AutismSpeaks. In addition, individuals nationwide are invited to join a Walk Now For Autism Speaks event in their local community, or “Walk With Geoffrey” online and personally fundraise for Autism Speaks.
