Healthy Habits: Pregnancy and Exercise

Exercise during pregnancy has a lot of benefits. It's good for the heart and muscles, and can help relieve some of the unpleasant side effects of pregnancy too, like fatigue, constipation and an aching muscles. Exercise during pregnancy can enhance energy levels and self-esteem, and can lead to a speedier recovery after delivery and a quicker return to the pre-pregnant state.
I know for me, staying active through pregnancy was huge. You should obviously consult your doctor before starting any fitness routine, especially with pregnancy. However, most people are able to stay active throughout all three trimesters, with some modifications and adjustments.
Tasha Lawton, created Pregalates, a DVD series of workouts designed especially for expectant mothers. Using gentle, effective techniques, including deep breathing and stretching, Lawton helps mothers-to-be prepare their bodies and minds for the birth of their babies. There's even a DVD specifically designed for each of the three trimesters of pregnancy.
Gentle workouts such as Pregalates, walking, some forms of yoga, and other low-impact exercises are a great way to stay healthy through your pregnancy and beyond!
