It Is Finished: Finding Lasting Victory Over Sindidn't hit me the same that some devotional books have - but it's through no fault of the author, more because I don't think I'm the best candidate for the book. The author, David Wilkerson, is the founder of Teen Challenge, a substance-abuse recovery program available in many states, including Minnesota. They have helped countless young adults and teens turn their lives around, and have programs for adults as well. So I have a lot of respect for the author, and also what he's writing about, I just don't feel like I'm struggling with some major issue in my life right now (don't get me wrong, I'm not perfect by any means). I think this book actually would have been wonderful for me in college, and wish I had read it earlier.
The premise of the book is that Jesus finished all the work of saving us from our sins when He died on the cross, and now our struggles are really God's struggles. So it's about turning our struggles - particular with recurring sin - over to God and using His strength to overcome them, not our own. It is well-written, non-judgmental, and Biblically-backed.
