If you're looking for a powerful Christian movie that can open up some good dialogues with your kid, King's Faith can provide that experience. It's coming to select theaters April 26th, and there's a Group Study Book available for those who are interested in using it as part of a Bible study.
The story revolves around a boy at his "last stop" before he ages out of the system - at his 18th foster family, with a criminal record, he steps into a quiet town and finds some people suspicious of his past, others curious, and others willing to welcome him with open arms. Throughout the film, there are a few undercurrents of other issues that revolve around the other characters as well.
The movie's not perfect. There are a few times where the discussion of religion feels a little bit awkward, and there are a few loose ends at the end of the movie. And it's not for young kids, either, since some of the topics that come up - abortion, drugs, gangs - would be over their head, and there is some violence (enough that it received a PG-13 rating, but it's not gratuitous violence, or overdone). If you have teens, this would be a good movie to watch with them.
If you're interested, you can demand King's Faith in your area (500 and it'll come).
Disclosure: I received a complimentary screening to facilitate this post. All opinions are my own.
