There's a song called Days of Elijah, that goes through several Bible heroes and picks one main point to parallel today. "These are the days of Elijah, declaring the Word of the Lord." R.T. Kendall has written a book, These Are the Days of Elijah: How God Uses Ordinary People to Do Extraordinary Things. It's based on a sermon series he preached, and looks at Elijah, as an ordinary, imperfect man, and how God managed to do amazing things with him, being a prophet of the people of Israel and performing miracles.
I always appreciate when Bible studies can provide real-life parallels or applications. I also like it when people point out that Bible heroes weren't perfect people, just people God used where they were at. The book is well-written, with a friendly tone. It's easy to understand for those new to Bible study, yet still contains points to learn for those who already have a great deal of Biblical knowledge.
