Healthy Habits: Staying Congestion Free

Allergy season has been brutal for many in the U.S. this year due to severer climate changes and natural disasters, such as Hurricane Sandy. Dr. Travis Stork, ER physician and Host of “The Doctors” shares five things you can do to relieve congestion associated with allergies.
1)      Stick to Simple Health Fixes.  Nearly 43% of adults are congested year-round1. Products that are drug-free and derived from natural ingredients, such as ARM & HAMMERTM Simply SalineTM Nasal Mists2, can be extremely effective in clearing nasal congestion.
2)      Combat Environmental Pollutants.  Pollution and allergens in the air can trigger allergy symptoms. Flushing nasal passages regularly with a saline nasal mist can lead to better breathing.
3)      Get Physical Daily.  Active bodies are better prepared to fight off illness.  You should aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise each day3, but that can be difficult for people with allergies. Try using a gentle nasal spray like ARM & HAMMERTM Simply SalineTM Nasal Mists to keep nasal passages clear and help you breathe easier while working out.
4)      Optimize Your Immune System.  Allergy season hit the United States hard this spring, Make sure you’re taking care of yourself in all areas. Consume a nutritious diet, drink plenty of fluids and get enough rest, so that your immune system can function at its best to keep you healthy.
5)      Refill Your Neti Pot Before Bed.  Neti pot use is ideal before bedtime because it helps clear nasal passages. Refill you neti pot with ARM & HAMMERTM Simply SalineTM Neti Pot Saline Nasal Irrigation Packets. The solution is pH balanced and made with real ARM & HAMMERTM Baking Soda to help prevent stinging or discomfort.
