Caring Causes: Save the Children

According to Save the Children's new report Food for Thought, good nutrition helps children grow up healthy and strong - and it also helps kids learn and even earn more when they grow up. Because of this, world leaders who will come together at two global nutrition summits (known as the G8) in June should take this issue on.
As a teacher who used to work in a high-poverty school, I have seen first hand the difference in focus, comprehension, and mood when kids are well-fed versus hungry. I've also seen the difference in my own kids when we have a couple days in a row where we eat less healthy than normal. And eating healthy is pretty easy. You can make quick, healthy, kid-friendly snacks that are low-cost simply by pairing up ingredients like peanut butter and fruit or dipping vegetables in sour cream. They travel well to school in a lunchbox and are much healthier than many packaged snacks.
