Consumer Critique: The Artist's Way for Parents

Disclosure: I received complimentary products to facilitate this post. All opinions are my own.

If you're looking for a way to break the rut of activities you do with your family, or you want to inspire creativity in your child or yourself, one good resource is The Artist's Way for Parents: Raising Creative Children. A follow up to a book written years ago called The Artist's Way, this book contains great information on inspiring creativity in your child - and awakening it in yourself, even if you don't feel particularly creative. Connecting art with a person's inner self, Julia Cameron's book is more like a toolkit - checklists, exercises, and advice. Occasionally some of it is advice you've likely heard before, and the book does have a decidedly Christian bent (but is appropriate for people of all spiritual traditions). I like that the habits are really broken down into three habits, easy to incorporate into any day: journaling in the morning, a creative activity at some point during the day, and reviewing highlights of the day before bedtime.

Right now, you can enter to win a gift bag with the book and art supplies for your kids through August 22nd. Or, if you buy the book by August 15th, money will get donated to the LilySarahGrace Fund and the International Child Art Foundation.
