Parenting Pointers: Conversation Tips
At any age, it can be hard to get kids to talk. What parents forget is that it can be intimidating for kids to talk up to parents directly. So if your kid has trouble opening up, try sitting so that you are even with or lower than your child. Or try talking in the car or at bedtime, where you aren't making direct eye contact. Instead of asking questions that can be answered with one word (How was your day? Fine.), ask more open-ended questions, like "What was the best part of your day?" or "How did you help someone today?"
