Consumer Critique: Oops! How to Rock the Mother of All Surprises

Disclosure: I received complimentary products to facilitate this post. All opinions are my own.

Did you know that almost half of pregnancies are unplanned? Now, this includes people who want kids but aren't actively trying, but it also includes people who have no intention of having kids.

From the Jezebel blogger Tracy Moore comes Oops! How to Rock the Mother of All Surprises: A Positive Guide to Your Unexpected Pregnancy, a collection of humorous essays in which Tracy shares her personal experiences with jumping head first into motherhood—without a clue what she was doing.

Tracy found herself unexpectedly pregnant at 33 years old and had to completely change her life - quitting smoking and avoiding foods she loved, learning how to be nurturing, and more.

Now, I can't empathize with the "unexpected" part, but I did get a kick out of the book. It's honest, open, and funny. It's not your typical loving parenting book, but it is real and practical. She provides advice on how to eat substitutes for the foods you're not supposed to, how to deal with some of the emotions you might go through with an unplanned pregnancy, how to look at the positives, a little bit about the nitty-gritty of delivery and the early days, and how to be realistic about some of the baby myths you might be believing.

If you or a friend is unexpectedly pregnant, this resource might be the best one to give them before all the other parenting books, so they get a sense that they aren't alone in their surprise.
