I have several friends who have adopted and done foster care. It takes a special person to provide a home for a child without a family. National Adoption Day, led by a coalition of national partners including the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, is a campaign to raise awareness of adoption. There are more than 100,000
children in foster care waiting to find permanent, loving families; plus, 26,000 children each
year turn 18 and age out of the foster care system without families
of their own to support them in the future. Thanks to the efforts of
adoption advocates, policymakers, judges and lawyers, more than 44,500
children have been adopted from foster care on National Adoption Day (the Saturday before Thanksgiving) since it began in 2000.
I had a chance to interview The X Factor standout, Nickelodeon star and Columbia Records recording artist Rachel Crow. She was adopted from
foster care as an infant after being removed for an unsafe and unhealthy
situation. Her family later expanded to include her
sister, Hannah, also adopted from foster care.
