As a homeschooling mother, I really appreciate books that teach but are also enjoyable to read. Thomas Jefferson - Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Everything does both. My older daughter enjoyed reading it, and I even learned things about this great American figure in the book. He had many interests - languages, music, science and math, nutrition, and literature. He also had his flaws, including the conflict between calling slavery an abomination yet owning slaves.
This is a great book for elementary kids - those who have learned about Jefferson and those who haven't. Readers are likely to get a perspective they wouldn't et from ordinary textbooks, and for my daughter, who hadn't heard much about him so far, it provided a great jumping-off point for learning about this historical figure and time period.
