I have several family members - my husband, an aunt, a grandma and several in-laws - that are all really intrigued by family stories and genealogy. I find it interesting to read old journals as well. It makes me wonder sometimes how we're leaving a legacy of what's going on right now, and I wish I had more time to record certain events from my past and from what's going on now. There's a website designed to make that process easy, with minimal time put in at once.
StoryWorth is an easy and
fast way to share and record family stories. Once a week, members are emailed a question about
their life. All they have to do is reply to that email and their response is saved
in a beautiful digital storybook the whole family can view. There's even
a phone service for those that aren't computer-savvy. They've also
partnered with a company to create heirloom quality books.
I've been trying it out for the past month or so, and it takes me just a minute or two to answer the questions I'm sent - questions about past friendships, memories of relatives, and things like that. It's easy to re-visit answers and add pictures later, and easy to control who sees your stories - only those you invite by email will be able to view what you've written. They can then suggest questions or leave comments. You can also have someone you know interview you instead of the pre-set questions.
You can see a sample of the online version in the picture. One warning - if you sign up and have a signature in your email, be sure to delete that when you reply, because mine showed up online!
You can get subscriptions at various levels - the deluxe plan includes a print book of up to 100 pages.
I have a chance to give away five memberships. If you're interested, leave a comment with your favorite thing about hearing family stories. Deadline is January 10th.
