First impressions matter. Whether you have an office in your home, choose to meet clients on the road, or have a physical building for your company, the appearance of your office makes a difference to your clients.
I work from home and often have families coming to my house for tutoring and lessons. The main room and the entry are the two rooms I spend the most time cleaning, because I know they matter to the people who come in my home for a professional reason. If the area is messy and disorganized, that will reflect poorly on my professionalism. If the temperature and lighting aren't suitable, then students won't be comfortable and successful.
Businesses of all sizes need to be aware of the impression they're making on clients. In warmer climates like Miami and Austin, cooling is a major factor; in winter in Minneapolis and Anchorage, it's important to have adequate heating.
If you're launching your own business, you may want to have a specialized firm knowledgeable about construction for offices handle the design and creation of your office or other custom commercial projects. If you're moving into an existing building, an investment with an interior design can go a long way. If clients don't feel your space is appropriate for your business, they most likely won't come back.
