Parenting Pointers: Making Clean-Up Time Fun

If you have kids who resist putting their toys away, try some of these ideas!
- Play "I spy" for the toys your child should clean up next. "I spy the blue ball! Do you know where it goes?"
- At the end of the day, take any toys that are left out. Your kids need to pay a nickel/quarter/dollar (depending on age) to get them back - or do an extra chore.
- Play freeze. Your kids race to see how much they can get cleaned up before you call out "freeze."
- Incorporate pretend play. Have them clean up like a pirate, or a monkey, or something else.
- With my kids, if they're resisting, I make minute-for-minute trades if they're really resisting. Every minute they spend cleaning up is one minute they lose of something they enjoy doing.
