Many people set goas for the new year,
yet only 8 percent of participants end up succeeding.
And research has shown that self-monitoring of goal process is a large factor in goal attainment. GiveIt100 offers a new way to stick to your 2014 resolutions. Launched after Karen X. Cheng’s
viral video
shown the world how she learned to dance in 100 days, GiveIt100
empowers users to share daily ten-second videos of their progress. GiveIt100 has already seen amazing results. From incredible stories of
weight loss to
re-learning how to walk, the community has already seen over 10,000 registrants sharing their respective journeys since its launch in November. I had a chance to interview Karen X Cheng, CEO & Co-Founder to learn more.1)What was the inspiration behind launching GiveIt100?
I'm Karen, co-founder of 100. I learned to dance in a year.
The
video got 3 million views and I got hundreds of emails from people who
wanted to learn to dance. That's how I got the idea for
100 - from a viral dance video.
This isn't a story about dancing, though. It's about having a dream and not knowing how to get there - but starting anyway.
When
you watch someone perform or score the winning point - you're only
seeing a brief moment of glory. What you don't see is thousands
of hours of preparation. You don't see the self doubt, lost sleep, the
lonely nights working. You don't see the moment they started. The moment
they were just like you, wondering how they could ever be good.
We made 100 for you to see that moment. Everyone starts a beginner.
2)Why 100 days?
I've
learned many different random skills before (like musical instruments,
dancing, juggling) and I noticed that around 3 months
was when I could see really noticeable results. Giveit100 stands not
just for 100 days, but 100%. People have the choice to make 365 day or
unlimited day projects too.
3)Why do you think this idea is gaining momentum?
Practicing and hard work has always been a solitary thing - lonely, even. When you share your work on giveit100, your hard work
isn't lonely anymore.
4)What are some typical 100-day goals?
- losing weight
- learning musical instruments
- learning languages
- parents filming their children
- people training their dogs
- learning to code, draw, ride the unicycle, dance, etc
