Website Spotlight: Mommy Coach

Disclosure: I received complimentary products to facilitate this post. All opinions are my own.

Sometimes it really helps to have someone else give you advice or guidance. And sometimes we have questions we might not want to ask people we know, but would prefer to ask a professional. Yet, it can be intimidating, expensive, and inconvenient to set up times to go visit a professional life coach, nutritionist, or other professional.

MommyCoach is a great website to help get over that boundary. I got to try it out this week with certified life and business coach Lara Galloway, and I'd highly recommend her (or using the website in general) to anyone.

First of all, the site itself is very user friendly. If you've been recommended to a specific coach, you can search for that name. If you have a particular interest, you can search for things like education, stress, or health; or you can click to select an area of expertise in parenting, education, health, life, or work. The scheduling process is easy, you get a couple of reminders so you don't forget, and it doesn't require you to download anything. You just need to have speakers, a webcam, and a microphone or headset. The technical aspect went smoothly.

The session itself was good too. Our session was a little bit unfocused, but that was more my fault than anything else, since I didn't have a specific goal or question in mind. The experts will communicate beforehand to get an idea of your needs and goals, and then use that to guide the session. Even though I didn't have any concrete idea (just a few nebulous questions), it was still a very helpful session. Lara was friendly, clearly experienced, punctual (I signed on early to make sure it all worked and she was already there), and had quite a few ideas and feedback to give me. It was great to have the conversation I did, because it was the first time I'd taken a half an hour to myself to articulate a major change I'd like to make happen in the next year. So even if I didn't have a specific question, I loved being able to just talk through some issues that might come up.

The nice thing is you can book just one session - you aren't locked in to meeting on a regular basis, so that can make it a lot more convenient and cost-effective than a block of sessions with a face-to-face coach. And you don't have to go anywhere to do it - so you can get advice from your home while your kids are playing in another room! It's a great option, and one that I'll definitely use the next time I'm looking for some advice tailored to my situation!
