JUMP Phone Charger

I had the chance to interview Chris Place, senior production designer at Native Union, to learn more.

What inspired the idea behind JUMP?

Living in the city, I’m always finding myself in situations where I’m running out of smartphone battery and never near an outlet. I wanted something small and compact that could give me the power that I need, but I didn't want yet another device I would forget to charge. When I studied the marketplace, I couldn’t find anything that met my needs. Power jackets are big and bulky, and they destroy the beauty of my phone; cables are messy and get tangled up easily; battery banks are too heavy and too big, and what’s worse is that I always forgot to charge them up, leaving them completely useless when I needed them most. JUMP solves those issues – it’s small and compact and when used as your everyday phone charger, it’s always ready when you need it.

What has surprised you the most about the design and creation process?

It has taken nearly a year to be where we are today, and it has been incredibly challenging from a design and development perspective to achieve such great battery performance in a compact sleek design. We’ve solved these problems in our design offering 800mAh which gives you around 30% of your smartphone battery in a lightweight, small and sleek design. With the invention of AutoCharge™ - an efficient circuit prioritization system that detects when the battery inside your smartphone is full, and automatically redirects the power to charge the batteries inside JUMP - the device is like two in one: A phone charger and an always-ready battery backup.

Who can benefit from using JUMP?

It really is a product for everyone. I think we’ve all been in that situation where your phone battery is dangerously low at the worst possible time. We hope that will be a problem of the past with JUMP!
