Parenting Pointers: Computer Security for Kids

Kids are taught to develop good habits at an early age and since kids are now growing up in the digital age where they are on computers soone, it is important that we teach our kids good computer security practices early.

With constant security breaches in the news, there is a lot of value in teaching your family the importance of being safe online and keeping devices secure.  VP of Marketing for Siber Systems, creators of password management software RoboForm, and Father, Bill Carey , can offer some advice and tips for practices that can benefit your family’s younger computer users.

RoboForm’s Cyber Security Tips for the Family

·         Use unique passwords for every website.
·         When you’re done with using a website, log off and close your browser. This will prevent others from gaining access to your account.
·         Create #passwords that are at least 6 to 8 characters long
·         Use the ‘Substitute method’ when creating #passwords. Choose any word and substitute letters for similar looking numbers or symbols.  For example: Football changes to F00t3411 and Superb changes to $u93rb.
·         Don't use any personal information in your password.  Stay away from using your name, your friends or family member’s names, telephone numbers or birthdays.
