It’s
so easy for parents to feel cut off from the world - that glorious,
terrifying, wonderful first year is often the most difficult, but even
after your children are toddling about it, just going to the store can
still be an expedition. Still, we all deserve some time to sit back and
relax, to let the worries of our day-to-day life fade away, and going on
holiday with your kids doesn’t have to be as hard as it looks.
1. Get To Work
Children love animals and the outdoors, and working farms throughout the UK are
set up to give families a taste of the country life. Not only does it
give you the chance to explore some of the most beautiful rural regions
on offer, but it also gives you - and your children - the satisfaction
of escaping your everyday life and trying something new. Depending on
the farm you choose, they’ll likely be very used to children and
experienced at keeping them happy and occupied. In addition the
accommodations are often rustic and relaxing, and there are usually
plenty of activities in the area for when you’re tired of bottle-feeding
the lambs.
2. Staycation Instead
If time or finances look like they might be keeping you from a holiday
this half-term, you might want to take the staycation route. So many of
us forget that people fly from across the world to visit our region or
city, and playing tourist can be just as much fun when you’re familiar
with the city. Book a few rooms at a local bed and breakfast,
make a list of fun things you’ve always meant to do, and get cracking;
there’s nothing to lose, and a whole lot of fun activities waiting to be
discovered.
3. Cruise Control
Family-oriented cruises are the perfect compromise between parents and
their children. Kids get the chance to explore, have fun, and meet other
kids, while their parents get to sit back, relax, and enjoy a truly
indulgent experience. Since families are one of the key cruising
groups, most ships will offer everything from
rentable cots, to baby food, to child care, and even features such as
baby and young child pools! Also, because everything is planned, you can
let go of your worries and not even have to wonder about where to have
dinner.
4. Family Reunion
Depending on where your family - immediate and extended - lives, you
might not have had the chance to see them all together in years. Giving
your children the chance to meet all of their cousins and relations is a
great gift, and renting out a property for
the weekend isn’t as expensive as you might imagine with everyone
chipping in. Finding a time when everyone’s free can be the trickiest
part, but it’s well worth the effort.
5. Destination Hotels
Family-friendly hotels - like the ever-popular Merton Hotel on
the south coast of Jersey - can be one of the best ways of ensuring fun
and relaxation for everyone. Pools, entertainment, childcare and more
will all help you relax into the resort atmosphere without having to
worry about the little details. Even if you’d rather get out than stay
in, less comprehensive family-friendly hotels will still offer features
like child care so that you can have some time to yourself.
