Colombian musician Andrés Salguero is releasing his debut kids'/family CD, ¡Uno, Dos, Tres con Andrés! in April, to honor El Día de los Niños. The CD is a great celebration of Latin culture, and is a great way to introduce the sounds of salsa, mariachi, bolero, and more to families who want to explore other cultures or celebrate their own. Vocals are in both Spanish and English - and as a German teacher, I applaud the bilingual approach to help introduce other languages to kids.
Andrés Salguero reflects, "As a musician who has played many types of Latin music, I didn't want to make songs that may perhaps sound
a little Latino but are, in reality, only a pastiche of 'Latin'
sounds. I wanted to make songs that, on their own, are each great
exemplars of the genre. I want grown-ups who are familiar with this
music to say, 'This is the real stuff.'"
My kids loved listening and dancing along to the CD. I loved using it to teach my older daughter about styles of music around the world! You can get a taste of what it sounds like in the video below.
