Parenting Pointers: What Energizes Moms

Everybody knows it: Moms can be busy, and sometimes stressed for time.  So you can imagine what they’d do with more time and energy: spend a day in the spa or have lunch with friends, right? Wrong. A new study from Everyday Health reveals that with a little more time and energy, 59% of moms surveyed would clean the house.
The online study was designed to find out what roles time and energy plays in a mom’s life — who and what give her a lift and what she’d do with just a little more time. To gain these insights, Everyday Health tapped an audience of 1,391 moms from across the country.
Here are some more eye-opening insights from the study about American moms and energy:
  • 49% of the moms surveyed said that they have “just enough” energy to get through the day
  • 67% say that it feels like they are putting in 24 hours or more per day
  • When asked about the activities that give them energy:
    • 55% of moms said that “getting to cross items off the to-do list” did the job
    • 54% said that spending time with their children was an energy booster
    • 52% reported that they got energy from doing household tasks
The takeaway? Mom deserves a really special treat this Mother’s Day.  Although she feels more energized when she has a clean house, rather than getting her a new vacuum cleaner, getting the kids to chip in around the house may be just the energy-boosting gift she craves.
