World Wisdom: Creating a Non-Toxic Home

Disclosure: I received complimentary products to facilitate this post. All opinions are my own.

I recently had the chance to host a Green Momma Party on behalf of Women's Voices for the Earth and Earth Mama Angel Baby. The party provided some great tips for creating a non-toxic home. For example, you can create a safe household scrubby cleanser with 1 c baking soda, 1/8-1/4 c Earth Mama castile soap. Just mix and use to scrub!

Earth Mama provides a variety of safe baby products, including calming lavender shampoo and body wash with no artificial fragrances or preservatives and no Triclosan, and baby oil with no toxins and organic Calendula.

You can visit Green Momma Parties to download DIY recipes and videos. You can also try these tips in your home to reduce toxins.

Nursery: use chlorine-free, fragrance-free, dye-free diapers and wipes; consider making your own wipes; keep antibacterial cleaning wipes out of the nursery; chose zero-VOC paint; avoid PVC toys; choose solid wood furniture instead of particle board; use lemon or baking soda instead of chemical air fresheners
Kitchen: avoid the dirty dozen high-pesticide produces types; choose fresh and frozen where possible; avoid BPA and PVC plastics; use fewer different cleaning products
Bath: stay away from artificial colors and synthetic fragrances; avoid triclosan; avoid PVC shower liners
Laundry: wash clothes before wearing; use vinegar or baking soda to soften clothes instead of fabric softeners; use fragrance-free and dye-free detergent
Outside: avoid synthetic fertilizers and pesticides; use sunscreen without oxybenzone; avoid DEET
