I'm not really a huge fan of most opera, so I wasn't sure about reviewing The Romantic Hero, an all-French recording by tenor Vittorio Grigolo. However, I do love the rich voice of a tenor, and my husband and I enjoy most classical music, so I thought I'd give it a try.
The album contains well-known opera arias, such as Roméo et Juliette and Faust, as well as those that aren't so common, like L'Africaine. The nice thing with opera is you don't have to understand the language to appreciate it - you can just appreciate the lyrical beauty of the singer. And opera is powerful and emotional, good for listening to when you want to evoke a mood - but also makes classy background music for a dinner party. I'm glad I had a chance to review this album.
