Healthy Habits: Packing a Balanced No Fuss Lunch

At No Fuss Lunch, our motto is, “We’re moms, we get it.” All three of my kids are picky eaters, and I knew I wasn’t alone! A balanced school lunch is like any balanced meal – a little variety can save the day. A No Fuss Lunch always has an entrée, a little side of fruits and veggies, a dip, and a handmade treat.

You can do the same thing in your own kitchen. An entrée can be anything from a tuna salad on whole grain bread, or sunflower butter and jelly, to whole grain pizza rolls, to a yogurt parfait with berries. There are healthy versions of classic kid fare like chicken tenders – Bell and Evans makes a terrific tender, and they have a gluten free version made with rice flour. Your side of fruits and veg can be as basic as celery and apples, or as exotic as you and your kids want to go – blanched broccoli? Go for it. Star fruit has a mild, cucumber-melon flavor and a kid friendly appearance, or even better, go for what’s local and fresh. A dipper of yogurt, hummus or sunflower butter is a fun part of a No Fuss Lunch – somehow, fruits and veggies are always more appealing to kids if they can dunk them in something yummy.

Don’t forget water and a treat – for our NFL lunches, our treats are organic, and never contain any GMO’s, white sugar, white flour, or high fructose corn syrup.

So, lose your school lunch angst and happy packing!

Founded in 2012 by mom of three Gabriella Wilday, No Fuss Lunch packs hundreds of fresh lunches each day for school children, campers and seniors. No Fuss Lunch maintains a nut-free, commercial kitchen and employs local Mom’s and Dad’s from the communities it serves. All lunches are prepared without high fructose corn syrup, white sugar, white flour, or MSG. Fresh, locally sourced, and organic ingredients are used whenever possible.
