Contest: National Good Neighbor Day

In honor of National Good Neighbor Day on September 28, 2014, Nextdoor, the free and private social network for neighborhoods, is launching a nationwide campaign to celebrate good neighbors. During the month of September, nominate a neighbor for Nextdoor’s Good Neighbor Awards and share a good neighbor moment to recognize the ways neighbors support one another every day across America.

The intent of Good Neighbor Day, founded in the early 1970s by Montana native, Becky Mattson, is to acknowledge the neighbors who make an effort to foster a strong sense of community and interaction between neighbors. Now, more than 40 years later, Nextdoor is furthering Mattson's mission by celebrating good neighbors this September.

“Every day, we hear inspiring and touching stories about neighbors coming together to support each other," said Sarah Leary, Nextdoor Co-Founder. "This year, we are celebrating Good Neighbor Day by recognizing these wonderful moments, big or small, and encouraging people across America to say thank you to their neighbors who are making a difference in their local community."

Neighbors everywhere are invited to nominate a neighbor or a group of neighbors for Nextdoor’s Good Neighbor Awards. The award winners will be announced on National Good Neighbor Day, September 28, 2014. The grand prize winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize as well as a matching donation from Nextdoor to a local charity of their choice.
