Consumer Critique: 1-2-3 Magic Parenting - Tantrums

Disclosure: I received complimentary products to facilitate this post. All opinions are my own.

1-2-3 Magic Parenting is designed to help parents raise happy, competent, well-behaved kids. I got a chance to read their book on tantrums. I consider myself lucky that I haven't had to deal with a great number of tantrums, only occasional meltdowns. My younger brother used to throw nasty ones all the time, though, particularly at home, and I remember my parents trying a number of strategies.

I think the biggest takeaway from the book is that tantrums, in a way, are actually a sign that the parent is doing something right - staying firm and consistent, even when the child is unhappy with the answer. That being said, tantrums aren't acceptable, and this book provides a number of practical strategies to use, whether at home or away.

Even though we don't deal with frequent meltdowns, I actually was still able to put in practice some of the strategies for more minor defiance from my children, and it was quite effective. The book is also fairly short and easy to read, so if you're in search of solutions, you can rest assured that you'll have some ideas in a short time.
