Consumer Critique: Map to the Treasure - Reimagining Laura Nyro

When Grammy-winning musician Billy Childs was eleven, his older sisters introduced him to the work of Hall Of Fame singer-songwriter Laura Nyro. Her blend of Broadway-inspired melodies, jazz improvisation and socially conscious lyrics have stayed with him. He's now released a new album based on this early source of inspiration - Map To The Treasure: Reimagining Laura Nyro. Joining him are a lengthy list of artists that includes RenĂ©e Fleming, Yo-Yo Ma, Alison Krauss, and Steve Wilson.

I didn't know any of Nyro's original music. However, this album was a delight. The artists involved are talented and the music is artfully arranged. The music often contains a sound message without being preachy, and the music is richer than many pop albums, with influences from Broadway, jazz, and classical music.
