This year is the 75th anniversary of LASSIE COME-HOME by Eric Knight (Henry Holt BYR, October 13, 2015). As a TV series beloved by all, not many people are aware that this classic story was first published as a short story in the Saturday Evening Post in 1938. The story was so popular that Mr. Knight expanded it into a full-length book, which was published in 1940 and instantly became a best seller.
To
celebrate this occasion, Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group has
given this treasured middle grade novel an updated jacket and a brand
new introduction by infamous dog lover and fellow MCPG author, Ann
M. Martin. They’ve also adapted this beautiful story into a charmingly
illustrated picture book, so that the earliest readers can enjoy this
classic too!
I honestly had never read the book, but I'm glad I did. It was a classic story, written in simpler times, but still a timeless story that follows how well-loved dear pets can be.
