Carroll Harrison Kehne, Jr. has illustrated a beautiful children's book, “Mommy, who made Earth?” In this book, expressionist silkscreen prints retell the story of Genesis, providing a beautiful look at the world. It's a great way to expose kids to this gorgeous artistic style, and also help inspire their own imagination and creativity. As a retired art teacher, Kehne wants the artwork, patterns, and colors to help stimulate imagination and growth. “The unique artistic images
in my book aren’t typical drawings that show the realistic description
of the verse,” Kehne said. “These abstract images encourage young
children’s visual acuity and enhance their creativity in their own
primitive drawings.”
My daughters and I really enjoyed this book. It was a different style than many other typical kids' books, but was rich and beautiful. It's also fun to see a variety of interpretations of the Creation story, with all the varied images it can bring up.
