Book Nook: Seaside

Disclosure: I received complimentary products to facilitate this post. All opinions are my own.

Every boy in Seaside wants to be one of Blackbeard’s Boys. From the time ten year-old Robert Grace O’Malley could hold his very first fishing pole, it was all he thought about. Bobby sets off to complete a set of challenges put forth by Mario, the cruel leader of Blackbeard’s boys, who seems intent on keeping him out.

Bobby dreams of being just like his idol, Antonio Bonicelli, the most feared and respected captain in the village. Boncelli has faced the worst of the sea and captured just about every beast imaginable, except for one, the giant octopus. Things in Seaside take on a dramatic turn when Bonicelli finally captures the giant octopus he has spent a lifetime searching for. Unknown to the great fisherman, the octopus he has captured is female, and the mother of a curious young octopus named Walter.  When Walter goes in search of his mother he meets Bobby, and their two paths are forever crossed. Bobby must choose between helping his new friend and the life he had already planned out before him.

This book was a fast read for my daughter. She got very engaged in the story and absolutely loved it. Normally she likes fantasy novels, so this was a bit of a change for her, but after reading it, she's found a new author to look for!

Seaside is a Gold Award winner of the Mom’s Choice Awards.
