Music Minute: A Frog Named Sam

The award-winning music of Ben Rudnick and Friends, pioneers of the kindie music scene, has delighted families for more than fifteen years. The group's most requested song, the beloved "A Frog Named Sam," is now featured in the January 22 release of the band's eleventh album, A Frog Named Sam: A Musical for Children (Soundtrack).

I got a chance to review the album, and it's fun. The song has been around for a while, and has a grown-up sounds for adults that's still appealing to kids, along with humor that makes it fun to listen to. The album tells an adventurous tale for kids, while including themes about friendship and caring for the environment around us. Sam the frog returns from his exhausting tour, expecting to find a peaceful home, and finds that his pond is in terrible shape. Then Tripp the alien crashes into the pond, which doesn't help, until Tripp takes him on a trip to learn to repair the pond.

Winners of seven Parents' Choice® Awards, Ben Rudnick and Friends create a jam band dynamic that takes their concerts and recordings to a stratospheric level. The band's musical styles include bluegrass, western swing, disco, reggae, country, folk, and the many flavors of rock. A Frog Named Sam: A Musical for Children (Soundtrack) will be available at benrudnick.com, amazon.com, cdbaby.com, bandcamp, and iTunes.
