According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, corded window coverings are one of the
top 5 hidden hazards in American homes, with infants and children
accidentally becoming entangled in window cords. This hazard is an easy
one to eliminate, by installing only cordless window coverings in homes
with young children.
To increase public awareness of window-cord dangers, the Window Covering Safety Council and CPSC have again declared
October as National Window Covering Safety Month. Parents are urged to
only cordless window coverings or window coverings with inaccessible cords
in homes with young children.
A recent nationwide initiative launched by the industry, called
Best for Kids™
is a certification program
which assists parents in making the right choice when selecting
cordless window coverings at the marketplace, with an easily
identifiable label on products which meet strict criteria.
