I recently had a chance to review The Myth of the Maiden: On Being a Woman. This book explores the trope of women as helpless maidens needing to be rescued, the history and cultural aspects of how this idea has been perpetuated. It also looks at how women can and have risen above this stereotype of being week, and have become their own dragonslayers.
The book has a great deal of information contained, and from a social sciences perspective is interesting. It's a meaty read, and would be appropriate for those interested in exploring how women have become stronger forces over time.
