I recently had the chance to review Feng Shui Mommy: Creating Balance and Harmony for Blissful Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Motherhood. I was intrigued by the idea of balance and harmony, and bliss in the face of the challenges of motherhood.
There were elements of the book I really liked. I liked the focus on working with your natural tendencies and making adjustments to focus on balance, on keeping everything in harmony, and of really being able to enjoy even the hard experiences. It also really encourages moms to trust their own intuition, which is valuable advice, since what works well for one mom might not work well for another, and there's nothing wrong with doing something differently (as long as it's still safe).
There are specific suggestions for all four trimesters (including immediately after birth) to help ease stress and prepare for the next stage. The book also touches on a lot of topics, including feeding, birthing positions, and more.
I don't really buy into all of the feng shui elements, but there were good nuggets of advice in the book whether or not you're into that. And it's always helpful to read things that are from a viewpoint very different from your own - you never know just what you might pick up when you shift perspectives!
